shadesandshadows:

The Tomb of Böcklin, oil on canvas, 1901-02, by Ferdinand Keller, German, 1842-1922.
Influenced by Böcklin, Keller evokes that artist’s atmospheric paintings with a dark island-like melancholy, large black cypress trees and wisteria covering an embossed tomb with a stranger at the door.
Keller was a genre and history painter and this is a transposition of The Island of the Dead by Arnold Böcklin, which also appears on shadesandshadows.
